This video by Jean Kilbourne presents a detailed visual and conceptual analysis of why this advertising does much more than simply tell us what we can buy. We see how the fears and needs of young people are used to create the young, new alcohol consumer. This program demonstrates how some advertising deliberately disguises the warning signs of problem drinking and falsely links alcohol with precisely those qualities - happiness, success, sexual fulfillment, prestige, athletic ability, creativity that the abuse of alcohol diminishes and destroys. The video also provides information related to AIDS myths and alternative ideas for prevention.

Instead of facing suspension, they accept the assignment of producing a video about tobacco and smoking for the student body. Highly resistant at first, Page watches as Ryan builds the first sequences for their production, which includes messages sent about smoking and interviews with young people expressing their views on the subject. For her contribution, Page surfs the internet for information about tobacco and nicotine. Struck by the hard evidence against smoking, her position gradually softens. The video ends with an emotional interview with Page's mother, an addicted smoker, which leads Page to decide to quit smoking and her mom to do the same.

This is a story about a group of teens who "survive" an automobile crash after a party. The characters review their night of drinking and marijuana use as they wait for help to arrive. The video covers their actions from the time they leave home to when they are involved in the accident and afterward. An ironic and tragic ending helps to bring the message home that it's not safe to be in a car while intoxicated, even as a passenger. The video also provides insight into how neglect of safety belts and inappropriate actions by intoxicated passengers can cause accidents, even with a designated driver. A must see for any teen substance abuse education program.
